iNaturalist Next App Permissions

Modified on Mon, 9 Sep at 11:35 AM

As you begin to use iNaturalist Next, the app will ask you for certain permissions when needed. The following is a list of permissions the app asks for, and the explanation given by iNaturalist Next for why it's asking for that permission.

iNaturalist does not sell its users' personal information. iNaturalist does not surreptitiously explore your photos or use your camera or microphone, or track your location except when it's needed in the app, such as to add a location to your observation or show your location on a map. These permissions help you use iNaturalist and record accurate data for your observations.

As with any other app on your device, you are able to edit iNaturalist Next's permissions at any time by going to the Settings app for your device, scrolling down to iNaturalist Next, and tapping on it.

Camera: Use the iNaturalist camera to observe and identify organisms on-screen in real-time, and share them with our community to get identifications and contribute to science!

Saving Photos: iNaturalist can save photos you take in the app to your device's gallery.

Use Location: iNaturalist uses your location to give you better identification suggestions and we can automatically add a location to your observations, which helps scientists. We also use it to help you find organisms observed near your location. You're always in control of the location privacy of every observation you create.

MicrophoneUse your device's microphone to record sounds made by organisms and share them with our community to get identifications and contribute to science!
